Statement

Accessibility matters.

We want everyone to be able to use this website and access our services. Here's where we are, where we're working, and how to tell us when we've fallen short.

Our commitment

Coffee Afrik aims to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA across this website. Accessibility is part of how we work, not a checkbox. If you can't use part of the site, that's a problem we want to know about, please tell us.

What we do well

  • Semantic HTML, landmarks, and headings throughout.
  • Visible focus states on all interactive elements (orange ring, offset).
  • Keyboard-navigable navigation, forms, and components.
  • Skip-to-main-content link at the top of every page.
  • Alt text on every image (added via content frontmatter).
  • prefers-reduced-motion respected, scroll animations, parallax, and the gradient breathing reduce or stop entirely.
  • Forms have associated labels, validation messages, and ARIA live regions.
  • Colour contrast checked: cream/ink passes AA. Orange on cream meets large-text AA.

Known issues

We're working on:

  • Some embedded news/event imagery is decorative, captioned versions are being added.
  • The animated background gradient may add slight visual noise, users with photosensitivity can enable reduced motion in their OS settings.
  • British Sign Language video content for the homepage and About page is planned for late 2026.

Accessing services offline

The website is one route into Coffee Afrik. You can always walk into a hub, call, or have someone else contact us on your behalf. We can arrange:

  • Live interpretation in Somali, Bengali, Sylheti, Arabic, Turkish.
  • Step-free venues across our hubs.
  • Childcare for evening events, with five days' notice.
  • Plain-English documents on request.
  • Large-print or Braille materials on request.

Tell us when we fall short

If you've struggled with this website or any part of our service, please email info@coffeeafrique.co.uk with "Accessibility" in the subject line. We respond within five working days.

You can also enforce your rights under the Equality Act 2010 via the Equality Advisory & Support Service (EASS) at equalityadvisoryservice.com.
